Sintra: Peninha & the Atlantic Horizon

Step above the clouds and discover one of Sintra’s most breathtaking hidden gems — Peninha. Perched at one of the highest points of the Sintra Mountains, this sacred and mystical site offers an unforgettable 360º panoramic view stretching across the Serra de Sintra, Cascais, the wild Atlantic coastline, the dunes of Guincho, and even Lisbon shining in the distance on clear days. During this experience, travel through centuries of history and legend. Learn about the ancient hermitage built in the 16th century, the spiritual apparitions that gave Peninha its sacred reputation, the 19th-century palace commissioned by a wealthy nobleman, and the strategic importance of this mountain range throughout Portuguese history. Standing here, truly understand why Sintra was once seen as a magical, almost mythical place. From the dramatic cliffs of Cabo da Roca to the golden beaches of Guincho, from Cascais’ elegant coastline to Lisbon on the horizon — this is where land, ocean, and sky meet. This tour blends history, landscape, geology, and storytelling. It’s a moment to slow down, breathe the Atlantic air, and witness one of the most powerful natural viewpoints in Portugal.
